Meet the Exceptional Brawley Farms Horse Trainers near Salem

Judy Brawley: Owner, Trainer, Instructor:

Judy began horse back riding in Virginia as a child, showed there through her junior years, and became a Junior Professional at 16. When she married, she moved to the Pacific Northwest.

For over 45 years, Judy and her family have operated a successful Hunter/ Jumper horseback riding program, 15 years in Washington and the last 35 years at their current Oregon location.

Judy and her son Bob completed the training facility in 1985. Their horses and students, both juniors and amatuers, have shown across the continent,
from Canada to California, and from east coast to west, winning many national awards, hunter championships, and top placings in prestigious Medal Finals (USET, USEF, and ASPCA). Brawley Farms' winning record spans more years than most programs have been in existence.

Judy’s experience as professional rider, horse trainer, and coach for over 50 years is unsurpassed in the Pacific Northwest, making Brawley Farms one of the most knowledgeable and successful A-level hunter and jumper barns in this region. Judy’s acumen in teaching and training has been consistently proven.

Rosanna Caswell: Barn Manager, Trainer, and Instructor

Rosanna Caswell began horseback riding at the age of 12 in Southlands, Vancouver, B.C., Canada. By the age of 15, she was active in pony club, teaching younger riders and competing in all three of the Olympic disciplines. She earned her pony club “B” rating and was a member of the B.C. Best Ever program enabling her to ride in sponsored clinics with Christilot Boylen, Pamela Arthur, and Captain Mark Phillips. Weekly lessons were taken from Dietrich von Hopffgarten and Rick and Jennifer Maynard.

In 1987 she moved to Brawley Farms to improve and expand her horseback riding and teaching skills and knowledge in the Hunter/Jumper world, and to continue her quest for dressage excellence. She became a professional in the equestrian field in 1988 and has been active in the training and organization of the Hunter/Jumper Program and the Dressage Program at the Farm. She is currently the head rider for both disciplines.

Rosanna spent two summers (1987 & 1992) working on her dressage skills in Germany under the tutelage of Johann Hinneman and Leonie Brammall. With that, the opportunity to travel with and help Leonie and her Grand Prix mare, Gilbona, at the Barcelona, Spain Olympics in 1992 was an amazing training and learning experience.

Through the years Rosanna has brought many horses along for the Dressage and Hunter/Jumper disciplines to sell or to compete. She has worked with most breeds of horses suitable for their intended job. She has placed highly and consistently in State and Regional Championships through the years on some lovely horses she has trained herself and has earned her USDF Bronze medal. She has shown thru Prix St. Georges and schooled thru Grand Prix. While in the USA she has worked with dressage greats Christine Traurig, Peter Decosemo, Rachel Saavedra, and Gerhardt Politz to name a few.

Her dressage students have ranged from complete beginners thru the FEI levels. Rosanna enjoys working with all levels and ages of students wanting to learn any of the Olympic disciplines always using a strong dressage base.
